On 13 December 2024, the Digital Innovation Zone (DIZ) marked its 5th anniversary with a grand event titled “5 Years of DIZ: Reflections and Directions”, held in Iasi, Romania. This large-scale celebration brought together approximately 80 participants, including representatives from higher education institutions (HEIs), technology providers, chief technology officers (CTOs), researchers, and communication specialists.

From 19 to 22 November, the 2nd MERIThON took place at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VILNIUS TECH), uniting creative minds from across Europe in an inspiring ideathon. Co-organised by the MERIT and SustAInLivWork projects, this dynamic event gathered participants from diverse backgrounds and institutions to tackle artificial intelligence (AI)-driven challenges, showcasing creativity, problem-solving skills, and technological expertise.

On Wednesday, November 13, 2024, Digital MERIT was represented by Digital Innovation Zone at the webinar Boost the Impact of Digital Europe Projects, organized by DEDEP.eu. This webinar had over 120 participants, all eager to explore how dissemination and exploitation strategies can amplify the impact of Digital Europe Programme projects.

On November 13, 2024, the International Industry Engagement Workshop on Cybersecurity, organised by the EIT Deep Tech Talent Initiative in collaboration with the MERIT Project, achieved a remarkable turnout with over forty participants joining both in-person and online. The workshop was held within the framework of the Deep Tech Skills Days 2024, bringing together experts, academics, and SMEs from across Europe to explore cutting-edge cybersecurity challenges and opportunities.

The Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya – BarcelonaTech (UPC), represented by the UPC Technology Center (CIT UPC), participated actively in the Smart City Expo World Congress 2024 (SCEWC24), the world’s biggest and most influential event on urban innovation, held from 5 to 7 November in Barcelona. This year’s edition attracted over 25,000 attendees, with 1,150 exhibitors, 632 speakers, and 261 sessions.
