RTU Launches New MERIT Master’s Programme with four specialisations to bridge digital skills gap

Riga Technical University (RTU) is launching its new and innovative master’s programme, as part of the Digital MERIT project: Management of Smart, Resilient, and Interconnected Systems. This cutting-edge programme reflects RTU’s commitment to equipping future leaders with the skills needed to thrive in today’s complex technological landscapes.


A Unique Blend of Technical and Business Expertise

The MERIT study programme offered at RTU, a joint programme between RTU’s Faculty of Computer Science, Information Technology, and Energy, and the RTU Riga Business School. This unique master’s programme combines the technical skills of IT with the business and leadership knowledge of an MBA program.

This newly developed master’s programme is designed with the current market needs in mind, and provides four tailored specialisations to align with diverse career paths:

  • Public Administration
  • Professional Services
  • Healthcare
  • Non-IT Manufacturing

This blend ensures that students can deepen their expertise in areas that suit their professional goals while preparing for high-level management roles like Chief Information Officer (CIO).


Addressing Market Needs

The master’s programme is designed to meet the growing demand for leaders capable of managing and innovating within smart, resilient, and interconnected systems. It covers emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and Cybersecurity (CS), enabling graduates to drive the technological advancements while ensuring alignment with business objectives.

Graduates will leave with the knowledge to lead IT teams, create strategic IT plans, and make informed technology investment decisions critical to organisational success.

Who Can Apply?

The programme welcomes graduates from any field who meet entry requirements, including a minimum of 6 ECTS in mathematics (e.g., statistics, probability theory) and 6 ECTS in IT. Candidates with a strong interest in engineering or related disciplines are encouraged to apply.
