The 4th edition of the MERIThON event was successfully held in Tallinn, Estonia, in conjunction with the international scientific conference MMM 2025, hosted by TalTech. This year’s MERIThON brought together students from multiple MERIT project partner universities – Riga Technical University (RTU), Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VILNIUS TECH) and Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech). Those students collaborated on innovative research ideas and exchange experiences in digital education.
Sharing Experience in Digital Study Programme Development
The event began with institutional presentations from the four participating universities, each showcasing their ongoing efforts in the design and implementation of new study programmes aimed at increasing the number of professionals in advanced digital fields. These programmes are focused on areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and IoT – skills essential for Europe’s technological advancement.
Participants discussed both strategic goals and practical challenges in program execution, emphasizing the importance of industry collaboration, hands-on learning, and cross-disciplinary approaches in building effective educational models.
Student Innovation Challenge
As part of the event, students were divided into international teams and invited to co-create future research project ideas. This challenge fostered teamwork, creative thinking, and the practical application of digital competencies acquired through their studies.
Each team presented a unique project concept, followed by a joint discussion to assess. In total there were 5 teams, with different ideas how AI and data analytics could be used for relevant problem solution. The variety and quality of the proposed ideas demonstrated the participants’ readiness to contribute meaningfully to the future of digital research and innovation.
Strengthening Collaboration for Europe’s Digital Future
The outcomes of the 4th MERIThON reinforced the importance of transnational collaboration in higher education and research. Bringing together institutions and students from across Europe, the event served as a strong example of how joint initiatives can help address the continent’s digital skills gap. The generated ideas potentially will be used as project during the students master studies and will reach the final implementation stage to be ready to change the world.
MERIT continues to support the development of a new generation of digital professionals equipped to lead innovation across sectors. By working together, universities and students are not only enhancing educational practices but also building a more connected, competitive, and future-ready Europe.
