VILNIUS TECH participates in a networking event on AI organised by Lithuanian higher education institutions
On June 2, MERIT partner Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VILNIUS TECH) participated in an event organised by several Lithuanian Higher Education Institutions (HEI). This year, VILNIUS TECH was the host of the event, which had Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its use in education as the main topic. The event included several pitches related to the possibilities and challenges that AI can bring, as well as some networking activities. The main purpose of the event was to improve and increase the collaboration between HEI and share best practices, concretely on AI possibilities and challenges in the education system. It gathered about 40 participants from 10 HEIs (including staff responsible for academic help, distance learning, career consultation, etc.).
During the pitch session, VILNIUS TECH representative and MERIT project member, Simona Ramanauskaitė, introduced the audience to MERIT’s programme and highlighted its relevance to the analyzed topic. Her intervention provided additional information regarding possible AI solutions to be used in HEI studies, as well as challenges. After the presentation, there were multiple requests to provide similar lectures and practical tasks to specific HEI employees (two of them are already scheduled for the next semester).
The event had two main outcomes:
- The recognition of the MERIT project contribution to enhance competencies, and more concretely in the field of AI. In this regard, several presentations tackled AI usage in the study process – although requests related more to future trends.
- The evaluation of MERIT project’s idea among HEIs and the consideration of MERIT as a competency-based learning program. Some HEIs showed their interest in the solutions and mentioned that it could be used as a pilot study in adoption of the idea.
