The European MERIT project concludes this September after four years of work aimed at training professionals with advanced digital skills and addressing talent needs in areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity and the Internet of Things (IoT). One of the educational programmes, delivered at the UPC’s Manresa School of Engineering (EPSEM), has already seen its first 15 students graduate.
On 29 and 30 September, the 8th edition of MERIThON took place in Vilnius, bringing together almost 150 participants interested in Artificial Intelligence (AI) for two days of collaboration, creativity and challenge-solving.
Held at VILNIUS TECH, this new edition invited participants with different levels of AI experience to explore how Artificial Intelligence can be used to develop new ideas and solutions to real-world challenges. Participants could either tackle a technical AI challenge supported by the Neurotechnology team or develop and present an actionable idea on how AI could be applied to address a specific challenge. Alongside the traditional ideathon prizes, additional awards were offered by NOD Baltic (the official ESET distributor in the Baltic States), SustAInLivWork, the Communications Regulatory Authority of the Republic of Lithuania, Accenture, IBM and Google, further boosting participants’ engagement and motivation.
On the evenings of 29 and 30 September 2026, Vilnius, Lithuania, will host the 8th edition of MERIThON, an international innovation event linked to the European MERIT project (Master of Science in Smart, Secure and Interconnected Systems) at Saulėtekio Avenue 11, Central Building, 2nd floor.
The Digital Skills and Jobs Platform (DSJP) has highlighted MERIT as one of the Digital Europe Programme (DEP) projects contributing to a more connected European digital skills ecosystem. The article 5 years of DSJP: DEP projects building a connected skills ecosystem, published to mark the fifth anniversary of DSJP, includes a testimonial from Darja Bubnova of Riga Technical University (RTU), representing the MERIT project.
