Highlights from AI Nexus Event at VILNIUS TECH: From Research to Real Conversations

On April 23, 2026, the AI community came together at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VILNIUS TECH) for the very first AI Nexus event, organized by MERIT project. The goal was simple but meaningful: invite students, researchers, faculty, and industry professionals to connect, share, and strengthen the growing AI ecosystem in a more informal and engaging setting.

Building connections through research: eStream poster session

The event began with the eStream poster session, where participants explored ongoing AI research and innovations. eStream is an annual international scientific conference titled “Electrical, Electronic and Information Sciences”, organized by VILNIUS TECH and co-sponsored by Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Attendees had the opportunity not only to engage directly with researchers but also to vote for their favourite posters.

The three most popular posters, as selected by participants, were awarded certificates in recognition of their impact and clarity. This session played an important role in highlighting current research directions and giving wider visibility to emerging ideas. It also broadened participants’ understanding of how AI is evolving across different domains.

Knowledge meets fun: the AI quiz

Following the poster session, the atmosphere shifted into a more dynamic and competitive mode with the AI quiz. Teams were formed from a diverse mix of students, professors, administrative staff, and industry representatives, reinforcing the collaborative spirit of the event.

The quiz consisted of five engaging rounds:

• AI Basics (warp-up) – demonstrating knowledge on the common AI topics.
• AI in Pop Culture – sharing knowledge on movie and computer game industry results, related to AI.
• Think Like an AI – ability to apply and analyse machine learning related experience.
• Real-World AI – reveal of various AI tools application and knowledge.
• Guess the AI – mastery in deep fake, AI generated content recognition.

Participants tested not only their technical knowledge but also creativity, intuition, and teamwork. The competition was close, with team “Fundamentai” emerging as the overall winners, followed closely by teams “GPT sugeneravo” and “Nexus Titans”. Beyond the final rankings, teams were also recognized for their unique strengths, adding a playful and inclusive dimension to the experience.

Preparing for the future: AI job market insights

The quiz was followed by a presentation focused on the AI job market, covering in-demand skills and how to prepare for a career in this rapidly evolving field.

A key message stood out: while technical expertise in AI is essential, it is equally important to develop strong soft skills – communication, adaptability, and critical thinking.

As AI continues to reshape industries, being prepared for change and continuous learning is just as valuable as technical knowledge.

Sharing experiences: AI Experience BINGO

The event concluded with an interactive “AI Experience BINGO” game, designed to encourage participants to share their personal experiences with AI. This activity highlighted the diversity of perspectives within the community and emphasized that everyone has valuable insights to contribute.

Through storytelling, listening, and open communication, participants strengthened not only their understanding of AI but also their connections with one another. The sense of community extended beyond the formal program, as discussions continued in a relaxed setting over snacks, fostering deeper relationships and new ideas.

Looking ahead: a growing AI community

As the first-ever AI Nexus event, this gathering laid a strong foundation for the future. It demonstrated the value of creating spaces that prioritize connection, experience sharing, and community building alongside knowledge exchange.

The organizers envision AI Nexus becoming an annual tradition, a place where academia, industry, and alumni can meet, collaborate, and grow together. By nurturing these relationships, the initiative aims to build a strong and supportive AI community that benefits all its members.

AI Nexus is more than an event, it is the beginning of a shared journey toward a more connected and collaborative AI ecosystem.
