MERIT launches official video on YouTube channel
In October 2023, the promotional video for the MERIT project was launched.
According to the European Commission, in the “Shaping Europe’s digital future” (2020) report, over 90% of jobs already require specific digital skills, yet 43% of European citizens and over a third of the EU labour force lack them, so the demand for digital specialists cannot be met.
In addition, according to the European AI Strategy and the Digital Europe Programme, there is a gap of 350,000 professionals in information and communication technologies (ICT), including AI and cybersecurity specialists, having set the target of reaching 20 million ICT specialists by 2030. Thus, both industry and society need to acquire or improve their digital skills so that digital innovations
can be fully exploited in the industry and daily life.
Aiming to reduce Europe’s skills gap among digital specialists, MERIT will build an international educational ecosystem and provide an industry-driven master’s programme as well as a set of life-long learning programs that are needed in educational programs based on the current and future market needs, aligned with the industry needs. They will focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT) and Cybersecurity areas.
MERIT is a European Union co-funded project under the Digital Europe Programme, with participating universities from four countries, industrial partners, excellence and research centres, national technology transfer organisations and Digital Innovation Hubs. The project includes a joint Master program that four European universities will offer: Manresa School of Engineering (EPSEM UPC) at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya – BarcelonaTech (UPC), Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VILNIUS TECH), Riga Technical University (RTU) and Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech), together with industrial partners and other stakeholders: Asoindel, Exacaster, Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK), UPC Technology Center (CIT UPC), Sunrise Valley Science and Technology Park (SSMTP), and Digital Innovation Zone (DIZNE).
