RTU – Riga Technical University


Riga Technical University (RTU) is an accredited higher education establishment and research organization of the Latvia Republic. It is the largest technological university in the Baltic states. RTU is an internationally recognized European university, striving towards a high-quality study process, excellence in research and sustainable valorisation. It consists of 9 faculties which are united in 6 larger research platforms: Energy and Environment, Cities and Development, Information and Communication, Transport, Materials and Processes, Security and Defence.
RTU offers full-time and part-time studies to approximately 15000 students, including 2763 foreign students. It has its own engineering high school, demonstrating the leading position with learning results among the state’s secondary schools. RTU has 4 Study and Science Centres located outside the capital Riga-in 4 other cities of Latvia. RTU has been highly evaluated by the international experts within the Institutional Evaluation Program carried out by the European University Association (EUA), who recognized in their report that strategically RTU is on the way to becoming a modern entrepreneurial university of the third generation. This was achieved by RTU efforts in creating a modern innovation ecosystem and offering digital tools, infrastructure and its experience to the students, i.e. best global practices and models have been used to create RTU Design Factory. RTU is recognized as being among 500 the best world higher education institutions operating in the field of engineering sciences and technologies by QS World University Rankings. It is the first prize winner in a competition for the best education institution organized among employers in Latvia and the platinum category award in the evaluation of Latvia’s organizations’ sustainability index.
